A Priest And A Leper Walk Into A Room

That sounds like the beginning of a bad joke doesn’t it? Well, it isn’t. Actually, if you’ve followed this blog and read one of the earlier posts, then you might remember me asking about when the ten lepers where healed. Remember how they were all healed but when the one returned to give thanks to Jesus, He said that the leper was now whole?

I believe that I received some insight into that scripture today. I could be very religious and say that it came after some very intense prayer, but honestly it didn’t. Just driving down the road…minding my own business. You see, I believe that we can have a connection with Father and that leads to a constant connection with Holy Spirit.

So here I am, driving down the road…not paying attention to anything in particular when BAM!!! The scripture passage came to my mind and I said, “Ok God, what’s going on here?”

I then understood that Jesus sent the 10 lepers to the priest. Why? Because according to the Law, only the priest could declare them healed. See how Jesus followed the Law? According to Old Testament Levitical Law, whenever there was a disease or plague, it was up to the priest to investigate and see if the disease was actually gone. Upon verification, the priest would then declare the person or place to be disease-free. Also remember in this passage that the 10 were healed as they went, not immediately.

Ok, so now the 10 have been healed on their trip to the priest. They get there, the priest examines them and I’m sure he knew their history too. He investigates, sees that their sores are gone, and pronounces that they are healed and can return to the community.

So what happened when the one returned to Jesus? Christ, the Healer, sees that he has been healed as He said. The former leper thanks Jesus for the healing. Then Jesus declares that the man is whole. Why? How?

Here’s the part of my revelation….the priest could pronounce healing, but only the High Priest could declare wholeness. Only the High Priest can make the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Any priest wouldn’t do….only the High Priest Himself….Jesus Christ….the Anointed One Who Saves.

I know people are gifted with a heavenly ability to heal. There are times when they don’t even have to pray for someone. They just simply speak the healing. I remember preaching one time and a man stepped up at the end and said that while I was preaching, he felt a heat on his knee and God instantly healed him of a knee injury that had happened several years earlier. And it never returned! Miracles are happening in the Body of Christ They never really stopped. People just stopped exercising the gift that God had placed in their hands.

However good that is, there is only one who can bring wholeness into your life. His name is Jesus. Without Him, we are sick, broken, and dead people. Without Him, we have no hope of being whole.

Friend, maybe through some divine intervention you have come across the Balm of Gilead. You’ve been searching for that wholeness. Maybe you don’t know why you are always feeling so empty. Maybe even today you have made the statement to give up. You did not come here by accident. This is a divine setup. You were meant to be here today. Call out to Him right where you are. Give Him permission to enter your life and make you whole. The High Priest knows just what you are feeling. Allow Him to come inside and make His dwelling place within you. Let me know if we can pray with you or plug you into a Bible-believing fellowship that points the way to Jesus….the author and finisher of our faith.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weeknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as (we are, yet) without sin. Hebrews 4:15
