In Honor of Dad

Yes, it’s Father’s Day. What a great day to honor your father or someone who has been like a father to you. I have had many great men speak into my life.

If I wanted, I could spend days listing the names of some great men. I do want to mention a few but please don’t think that this list is exhaustive….far from it.

First of all, my eartly father….Edward “Pete” Hinkle. Where would I be without him? Part of the chorus of a song from Michael Card sums some of it up for me. “In you I learned the kind of faith that looks up to the mountains. In you I saw just what I’d like to be.” Thanks dad for everything. Can’t wait to see you heaven. I LOVE YOU!

Then, another brother and father, Pastor Gene Cecil from The Church Triumphant in Short Gap, WV. You have been there for me, encouraged me, and even corrected me in a spirit of love. You are a man of God. I’m blessed to be able to call you friend.

Another pastor that has come into my life fairly recently, Pastor Paul Price (www.cornerstoneworshipctr.org)  from the Cornerstone Worship Center in Indiana, PA. Your dedication to the Gospel and your constant love for me (and others) has carried me through many difficult times. I see the goodness of God through you. Thanks for not giving up on me or those God has called you to.

Pastor Richard Greene from God’s Ark of Safety Ministries in Frostburg, MD (www.godsark.org)….the man of faith and determination. God has called you to build an ark as a sign of God’s love and the soon return of Christ. You inspire and bless me. I never thought of this until now, but you always call me son. Thanks for following God’s call and for your unconditional love.

Another pastor that I met fairly recently, pastor and evangelist Tom Capps. Your joy is contagious and your love never-ending. I can see your love for me in your eyes and hear it in your voice. You’ll never know how you have strengthened me and encouraged me.

Then there’s Paul Rowzee, the Colonel…isn’t it time for a promotion? We’ve known each other over a decade and I can’t think of a time when you weren’t looking out for me. I have seen your heart of a servant. I have seen your love for the Gospel. I have seen you grow in your walk with Christ. Thank you for believing in me and always treating me like one of your own.

And before I finish, I must thank my heavenly Father. Your gift of love in sending your only Son has made the way for me to be in your presence. I am whole…body, soul, and spirit because of you. Thanks for loving me and the whole world.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have eternal life.

  1. Maybe there is someone special that you would like to honor. Feel free to leave a comment expressing your appreciation for that father.

I do want to say something else. Someone approached me this morning and thanked me for being a “father” to them. You don’t know how much that honored me. Wow! I am truly blessed. I didn’t know if you wanted anyone else to know this so I will just say…I love you…you’re a great man! Thanks Jim…oops…I mentioned your name. LOL!!!

  2. Thank you for this blog. So many people out there do not have a father figure in their life. It seems to be very common that young people have no one to look up to. My dad-my dad is my rock (Jesus first). He always stood up for me, made an effort to never break my heart, and when he made mistakes he admitted them quickly…telling me not to look up to him too much. lol

And To you, D-thanks for being my very good friend

    Tiffany
