Expired

I was at the store picking up a few items. One of them was milk. As I was carrying it in, I noticed the expiration date. I usually have no worries about using milk before it expires because milk is one of my favorite drinks. However, this one almost spoke to me. When I looked at it, the date was November 6th. Instantly I said to myself, “Hmm, by the time the milk expires the election will be over.”

I am not writing a political blog but I do believe that the future of the United States is up for grabs. While I don’t think either candidate has clean hands, I do believe that one has stood for Christians and the unborn unlike any president in recent history while the other, though he may or may not stand for those same values, has a party who many (not all) endorse abortion up until birth and some even after birth. I can’t even wrap my head around that thinking other than to say it is pure evil and deception. How could that even enter a rational thinking mind? I know there are certain circumstances and I will not judge but I also believe that the enemy has deceived so many people and we as believers must offer hope, restoration, and healing. I have and will always stand with the value of people who are created in the image of God. I don’t believe people have an expiration date. When we devalue human life at any age, we are slapping our Creator in the face and I don’t believe He will or can bless a nation that moves in that direction.

Moving on, I was struck at how many people are so polarized. I remember 4 years ago, many were literally crying because the assumed many things were going to change. They were so brainwashed into thinking like Chicken Little….the sky is falling. Some thought the end was near. Some threatened to leave the country, although none did that I know of. Some thought Roe v Wade would be overturned. The narrative goes on and on.

In truth, none of those things happened. The sky didn’t fall. No race or sexual preference had their rights taken away. Roe v Wade wasn’t overturned. So why all the fuss?

I asked Father to help me understand. I am coming to understand the temporal mindset of people, even Christians. Scripture tells us

“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
But the Word of the Lord endures forever.”

Some Christians struggle with eternity. While having wisdom in earthly matters is good, what really matters is our eternal state. As I have said so often, everyone lives forever. It’s just where you park your RV. I am very passionate about certain earthly (temporal) things. I am very vocal about this country and our president and the future of the US. However, in the grand scheme of God’s plan, they all just serve God’s purpose. While not perfect, I am thankful for a nation where we can be free to worship and for the most part, do most other things. I am also aware that God isn’t concerned about nations. He is concerned about people. He uses nations for His purpose. John the Revelator said

After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

You see, when it’s all said and done, when every nation has fallen and the Kingdom of God comes in it’s fullness, what remains is not nations. Nations expire. What will last is a people….born of every nation, tribe, and tongue….crying out loud “Salvation belongs to our God!”

So don’t worry about expiration dates. What really matters will last. The Word of the Lord endures forever!
