Have you ever been at the end of your rope? Ever get to the place where nothing seems to be working. Many of you have….but God!
Gospel music in it many forms speaks so much to me. As David’s harp soothed the soul of King Saul, so music can minister to us. Sometimes it’s on a superficial or soulish level, but it can also dig deep into the depths of our being and bring a word that we need to hear. More into that in a bit.
Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.
This is a familiar passage that for some that speaks to the desperation and almost hopelessness some face. For some, the mention of cancer, or drug addiction, or certain diseases or ailments automatically pronouces a death sentence or long-term pain on someone. It strikes fear into the heart and rips at the fabric of hope that was once there. When nothing else could help. This woman gave all she had for the answer. She was financially bankrupt and emotionally drained. People had used her and promised her results but in the end she only got worse. Maybe you’re feeling like that now. When nothing else could help….
Somewhere in this woman’s life, she heard a story. A story so wild she couldn’t imagine it happening to her. Or could it? There was a man. A man named Jesus. A man whose touch, according to some, could heal blinded eyes. A man whose words could raise the dead. A man whose compassion could feed multitudes. A man who, even though at that moment she didn’t know nor could understand it, could take away her sins. Maybe at first she said, “that couldn’t happen, let alone happen to me.” Maybe even her friends tried to convince her that the stories were lies. If you notice, the Bible doesn’t mention anyone with her. What went on in her mind at that moment?
Something happened within her. Some speculate it was desperation. Some think it was a supernatural change in her heart that was brought by the Gift of Faith. Regardless of how, what we do know is that she pressed through an extremely crowded group of people. Violating the rules of her religion she pushed people out of the way to get to Jesus, saying in her heart, If I can just touch His clothes, I shall be made well. When nothing else could help.
Two “immediates” happened here. When she touched His hem, she was immediately healed. Sometimes a healing can be a process but the same Creator who spoke and it happened is also able to do things in an instant. She immediately knew she was healed. She noticed a physical change as the result of her healing. What no one else could do, Jesus did. When nothing else could help. The other “immediate” happened at the same time. Jesus felt the release of supernatural power from His body. He felt the woman tap into His divinity. He immediately knew someone reached out in faith and received something from Him. It was such an amazing incident that even though people were pressing against Jesus, He only recognized what happened through Him to her.
There is more to this story and I encourage you to read the entire chapter of Mark 5. What I’m here to tell is is that WHEN NOTHING ELSE COULD HELP, THERE’S JESUS. So many times we use Him as a last resort, and that will probably happen more than not. Go ahead and try whatever means you think is necessary. What you’ll find is that when nothing else could help, Jesus is waiting there. You’ll find He’s been there the whole time. Why waste your time, money, and emotional energy on something that will never last. You could have the best doctor on the planet but in the end, setting the rapture to the side, we all die. Only One can offer us eternal life. You can have the best laid plans for your success but in the end, it falls away and Jesus is all that’s left. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. When nothing else could help…..
Friends, there is mercy for you! God loves you abundantly! Jesus is right there for you. All you have to do is reach out to Him and receive what He has for you. No one else can give it to you. Salvation BELONGS to the Lord. Some may offer cures but the only antidote for sin is the blood of Jesus.
When nothing else could help…..love lifted me. This brings me back to the song. Friend, whatever state you’re in, it’s not the end. Go beyond what you “think” and let your faith move you. Whatever ailment, disease, or sin has a hold on you, Jesus is the answer. If we can pray with you, please email us at thehealingbalm@gmail.com
Listen to this wonderful rendition of this beautiful song. Let love lift you!
