There is such a plethora of Christmas music. From fun music to traditional and everything in between, there is something for everyone and it all tells the Good News of the greatest story ever told…that a virgin would conceive and bear a son and call His name Jesus, for He shall save the world from their sins.
When we think about the birth of Christ, we all get fuzzy feelings. However, as the one writer says, “It was not a silent night.” I love the story of Christmas, but honestly, the birth of Christ was only the beginning. If He had never lived a sinless life, if He had never died and atoning death, if He had never risen victoriously…the birth wouldn’t have meant so much. Granted, His birth was nothing short of miraculous. Why would God make such and elaborate presentation of His Son if there wasn’t more to it? The Bible says that in the fullness of time the Savior came. That means that when the time was exactly right…not just for His birth but for everything else to be accomplished also. He had to be born at just the right time so that He would have the right parents, experience certain specific events, and die a particular way. He had to die on a cross and this was unique to the Roman Empire.
As you celebrate the Christmas season, get together for Christmas Eve services, and exchange your gifts to one another, remember why He came. He arrived as a babe so He could die for your sins. This is the full Gospel. The Spirit of Christ can now reside in you. Think about that the next time you say “Ba Humbug.”
