I ran across this article today on Yahoo Health by David Zinczenko about America’s Best and Worst Health Drinks. I encourage you to read the whole article as one of the drinks really crushed me. This article talks about how we have taken on the “health” drinks but many are not very healthy. David starts out by saying whoever invented bottled water is a genius. I totally agree. Most of what is bought in stores is really municipal tap water. Some good marketing got people to pay a whole lot more for something the already have. Way to go marketing team!
This article went on went on to name names of some popular “health” drinks that aren’t so good for you. I was totally blasted away with the sugar content of some. One such drink had the sugar equivalent of 16 medium-sized chocolate eclairs. One drink…not a 12 pack or anything. Wow! Another had the sugar equivalent of 20 Reese’s Cups. And these are healthy? What really adds to the sting of this is that many of these drinks are probably super expensive. I think I got into the wrong field.
When you boil it all down…no pun intended…but water is still probably your best bet. I know at one point I was drinking a whole lot more water. I felt better and I lost a bunch of weight. Now tell me again why I didn’t stick with it? With spring upon us and summer right around the corner, I should probably start drinking more now. I actually do drink more in the summer.
God must know a whole lot more than I do. What? You agree with that statement? God knows the benefits of water so much better that the Bible says that Jesus is the Living Water. He also gives an invitation in Revelation to “come if you are thirsty and take the water of life without cost.
Friend, are you thirsty? Have you gotten your fill of sugar filled religion? I don’t know about you but I am so tired of message that are so sweet that my teeth hurt. No wonder the American culture is overweight. We are examples of the spiritual state of the nation. The nation and the church are not healthy. We’ve been fed the doctrine of fluff with a glass of sugar water. Give me some meat! give me some vegetables. Give me a full-course meal. Sweets are good in moderation but I can’t live with a steady diet of it. Wonder why we are raising a nation of diabetics. Some have a legitimat reason but many are dealing with this because they can’t push the cheesecake away and eat a real meal. Church…WAKE UP!!! Nation…WAKE UP!!!! Keith Green used to have a song “Asleep In The Light.” I say it’s asleep from a sugar coma.
OK, enough ranting. This was heavy on my heart. Know that it is not too late to change. Physically, if you change your diet in smal amounts now, then it will be easier. Spiritually, get some reall Word and not the sugar coated cotton candy you’ve been fed. You will feel better and you will have more energy. And you will actually be honoring God in your temple.
