And Then There Were Three

OK, so we’ve gone from the masses to the twelve and for the most part, they are missing the true message of Christ, the Anointed One. Honestly, I don’t want to be too critical because I the message can sometimes slip right over my head. Sometimes we get caught into a rut and sometimes it’s just a lack of focus. I remember years ago riding with a close friend and I looked at him and said, “We wrestle not.” He then replied, “Yeah, we wrestle not against flesh and blood….” I in turn said, “No, we wrestle not.” He in turn repeated his earlier quotation of scripture. After several vollies, he finally figured it out. My statement was that the church doesnt fight for anything. We wrestle not. We need to be careful to hear what the Spirit is saying to us.

So the multitude missed and and the twelve missed it. Isn’t someone going to figure this out???? Take a look at Peter, James, and John. Probably the three closest to Jesus. Did they figure it out?

Lets look at one scene. Here the three are on a mountain with Jesus. Suddenly He is transfigured and Moses and Elijah appear with Him. They are shining like a bright light. The three disciples could only watch in amazement. There was even a voice at the end instructing them to listen to Jesus. Do you think the light went on? Probably not. Their response was to build three temples to honor them. Typical of man made religion. God moves supernaturally and we want to build a monument. We want to add our flesh to God’s divine. It doesn’t work that way.

To be fair, I do believe that many began to understand the true purpose of the Messiah but it wasn’t until after His death that they captured His purpose. Many came to understand why He came and why He had to die.

Was there at least one who understood? I do believe that there was one. His name was John. John was the one who was found listening to the heartbeat of Jesus during the last supper. He is even referred to as the one whom Jesus loved. You’ll find him at the crucifixion when all others had fled. He was commissioned to watch over the mother of Jesus.

The message that John caught, the true heartbeat of Jesus and His Father…that message was love. All throughout John’s writings we find this theme. He knew what made Jesus tick. He knew that Jesus was Divine and yet came in the form of a man. He put on fleshly garments to bring God’s love to mankind. He offered it freely on the cross. He willingly became the sacrifice, bearing our sins and washing them clean with His blood. Why? Because He loved us. GET IT???

The invitation is there for you today. He loves you, friend. Faults and failures, sins and trespasses…hopes and fears, dreams and sorrows. It’s you He loves….GET IT!!!!!

For God so LOVED the world that He gave His one and only Son, so that whoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3.16
