Have you ever been told to “go to your happy place”? Maybe things weren’t going your way so a friend told you that. I’ve had to tell myself that at times.
Where is your happy place? For some, it is a quiet place…maybe imagining a private beach with waves as the only noise. For others it is thinking about something good that has happened in your life.
May I propose to you today to create your own “happy place.” For me, my happy place is in the presence of the Almighty. There are times when I am there and absolutely nothing else matters. In the presence of the Creator, there is a knowing. In the presence of the Almighty, there is safety. In the presence of Jesus, there is peace…because He is the Prince of Peace. There have been times when I couldn’t even think straight that I would just go to His throne room and just sit in His presence and there I found the answers.
Here are some things that have helped me:
1. Make a place for Him. Have a special place that is just for you to meet him. I have a room that has only a few pictures and doesn’t have things to distract me. Just a simple meeting place. There are a couple candles, a writing tablet and pen, a bible, and a comfy place to sit. I will usually bring some water or tea with me.
2. Make sure you go in with an attitude of worship and adoration. How you enter can determine what will happen or how long it will take. If you go in in a grumpy or even a demanding mood, God may not even want to speak. Maybe it’s better said that He will be speaking but you will not be listening. Don’t be surprised either if He says something you dont want to hear. Remember the key is to come meet with Him. Not even really asking for anything. Which brings us to…
3. Go in with your ears open and your mouth shut. In the beginning, the only things out of your mouth should be words of worship. Exalt Him for who He is. There are times of petition but this is really just a time of being with Him. It may lead into a time of petition and intercession but your goal is to bask in His glory. Many times I will just go in without any music or predetermined agenda and just sit and be quiet. I will let my thoughts focus on Him and His goodness. Sometimes a song of worship will follow…and many times it’s not even a song I’ve ever heard. It’s just a song that my heart is directing to my Deliverer, Redeemer, and Savior. I have found that many times during the most quiet of moments is when I hear His voice the loudest.
4. Know that when you have a special intimate place to meet your Master and you go in with an attitude of love, He will meet you there.
He has never let me down. Come before the throne of grace with confidence.
So today, go to your happy place and find rest for your soul. Let him in with His presence and glory. Can’t you hear Him calling? Do you hear His heartbeat? Can you see the desire in His eyes? HE LOVES TO MEET WITH HIS CHILDREN.
