I went to a new hospital in our area the other morning because a friend was having bypass surgery on his heart. As I sat there talking to his other friends and family, I looked around this hospital and noticed the brand new facility filled with the bright lights and all the things that make it pleasing to the eyes. I know that part of the job of a facility is to make you comfortable and to reassure you of their medical competence.
Throughout my conversations, I was informed of the lead cardiologist and his superior knowledge and skill. Im sure he is very good. Im glad there is someone who is trained and has exceptional skill in the medical field.
I have several friends who are connected to the medical field. I have always had a respect for others who can minister healing in some way to those who are sick. It takes a special type of person to do what they do. I am especially respectful of those who work in hospice or geriatric units. What a gift of love they have.
There are those who believe that God doesn’t use medicine to heal. While I am concerned with some modern medical practices that merely treat the pain or symptoms and not the root cause, I do believe that there is a place for modern medicine. What do you believe? Do you think that God can use doctors and nurses to improve our health?
I do believe that He is my Healer. We often quote Isaiah and say “By His stripes I am healed.” How well do we practice that. While I know He is my healer, I also know that He gives us the knowledge. It ultimately comes from His hands. I know a couple that are chiropractors and they take the mandate to “lay hands of the sick and see them recover” as a literal and viable method.
So, the next time you go see your doctor, don’t look at them and see a doctor. If God has placed them in your path to bring about your healing, then see them as a representative of Christ.
…on either side of the river was the tree of life…and the leaves were for the healing of the nations.
