The Word is so alive. It is living and viable for your every need. Im glad the Word is not just a bunch of letters. Remember, every word in the Bible is in the dictionary but the dictionary isn’t anointed. It’s the power behind those words. The arrangement of those words was and is God-breathed.
Jesus said to “take My yoke upon you.” I don’t know if you’ve ever seen a yoke before but its basically a wooden harness that connects two animals for one task. I remember years ago thinking about why anyone would want to take a yoke. After all, its a device of bondage. We are supposed to be free in Christ aren’t we?
Throughout the writings of Paul, he calls himself “a bondservant of Christ.” This intrigues me. Why would some who has been made free want to entangle themselves with another yoke? The Bible says that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. As believers, we have been made free in Christ. THERE IS THE KEY!!!
This just jumped out at me. We have been made free IN Christ, not free FROM Christ. When you come to God, He frees you from the things of your past…your past sins, your failures, your fears, every thing!
In order to remain free from the snares that so easily entangle us, we must embrace Christ completely. I remember hearing a preacher many years ago say that once a person has died, the fears and bondages of life don’t have any more hold on him. After all, you can’t kill a dead man. This lines up with Paul’s teaching. He said “I am crucified with Christ and yet I live. It is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me.” Taking on Christ does not necessarily mean that we will no longer have struggles. It means that if I have died to myself and it is Christ who lives in me, then HE will be the one fighting those battles.
Another thing I have learned about the yoke is that is isn’t a device of bondage. It is a method of unity. It is no longer just you pulling the plow. You know have someone beside you sharing the load. What’s cool is that Christ said to take His yoke. Before He left, He also said that there would be another one to come alongside of you…Holy Spirit, the parakletos; one like the first with the same agenda.
YOU ARE NOT IN THIS STRUGGLE ALONE!!
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
