It Was Me

While this is certainly not a music review blog, music is vital in my life. Music can reach into a person’s soul and make him laugh or cry, sing or stay silent, confirm or cause to think. A song will stay with us long after a sermon has been forgotten.

That said, while sitting down today to have some quiet time with my Master, I put in a EP that was passed on to our radio station through one of the staff at our church. This CD by a young lady named Kim Edwards from Pennsylvania has talent written all over it. There is a style and simplicity to everything about it. From piano and cello to thought provoking lyrics, I am truly blessed and my heart is quieted as David soothed King Saul with his harp.

The song that has spoken to me most…at least right now…is titled “It Was Me” and it uses a real life situation to make you see the constant love of our Savior. “Another rainy day in New York City” sets the stage for this song as she sheds light on the cry of Jesus for you to realize “It Was Me.”

The first time I heard this song, I sat in the studio as tears began to roll down my cheeks. For all of the busy days, as we fill them with everything our hearts desire, there is the never ending pursuit of the God of the Universe. As I heard another artist say a long time ago, God loves us so much that He would rather die than live without us.

For all of your hurts and pains, God is waiting to heal you. “You complain about the rain. You’re such an unlucky fella. I won’t mind to open up the sky. If it means that we share an umbrella.” Through all of my joys and fear, God has never left me. It was Him walking with me. The Apostle Paul even said that everyone else had forsaken him, except for one, Jesus Christ.

My friend, you are not alone. I can see the Father jumping up and down screaming “IT WAS ME!!!!!” Maybe that’s not your vision of God but it is mine. That’s the type of deity He is. False gods are far off. Never approachable. Always waiting on you to make the first move. Oh my dear friend, that is so opposite of this God, this one and only true God. There is no god like our God. While other gods were demanding recompense, Jehovah said I will provide the lamb. While the puny self-proclaimed gods would not let anyone near, the Master Builder tore the veil in two. When every other wannabe runs for cover, He declares “I am here!”

For all of your brokenness, know that He is there. Even now, as I am writing this, I sense the anointing of the Holy Spirit. There is something coming out from this screen and touching your life. Even now, I speak healing into your life. These words are life and they are health. There are blinders lifting from your eyes. You are seeing truth as you have never seen it before. You are being healed.

I heard a voice thunder from the throne: “Look! Look! God has moved into the neighborhood, making His home with men and women. They’re His people. He is their God. He’ll wipe every tear from their eye.
