I started playing a song thing week during Worship 180 called “Healer” by Kari Jobe. This is a great song that declares your trust in God to heal. It’s a song of affirmation to the God who heals.
While I love this song, I’m also aware of it’s history. If you go back a year or so, this song was originally done by Hillsongs. There was even a video of the writer of the song performing it on-stage. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, let me share a little bit but know that I am not judging. I am simply trying to understand the human condition of a broken heart.
The writer of the song had an incurable disease (I believe cancer) and was vehemently fighting for his life. He had been in battle with it for a couple years from what I heard when God gave him this song. The first part of the chorus states, “I believe You’re my healer. I believe You are all I need” and goes on to affirm that “Nothing is impossible with You.”
It was a moving song and extremely touching to see the writer perform the song on-stage with oxyen tubes in place. However, there was just one problem….he never was sick. He didn’t need a healing…at least not that kind.
This bothered me because I had just posted a link to the video on another blog that I contribute to and was hopeful that it would spark hope in others. To the saints, it was another problem with another leader. One that has happened before and one that will happen again. To those who have not received the gift of God through Christ, it was another excuse not to believe truth and to judge our Savior by the those who have fallen.
I learned a couple things through this. First, no matter what man does or says, God’s Word is still truth. If God’s Word cannot be trusted, then I give up. What’s the use of going on? After all, the Word says that He who promises is also faithful to perform. I know His Word is secure by just looking at the earth. With one word it was created and placed into orbit and by that same word it still exists.
Two, the brother who wrote this song needed a healing in his heart and this is sometimes more difficult to receive than a physical healing. Some say he lied to give the song more notoriety when he received his “healing.” Others have said that he just wanted to increase sales through emotions. I don’t know the reason he did it but I do hope that he has either received or is going through a process to obtain his healing of something deeper.
Friend, don’t judge this man. We all have inner wounds that need healing. It is sometimes more obvious to diagnose cancer than it is a broken heart. I hope you are close enough to some friends who can easily see into deep into you but remember that only Christ can heal your innermost hurts. Know that He is your healer…and that’s the truth!
On a side note, don’t forget about the Valor Healing Campmeeting at the World Lighthouse Worship Center on September 17th-19th. Pastor Sharon is hosting it and guest speaker will be Pastor Dan Nicholson. Both operate in the gifts of healing and this will be a time of teaching and practical application. It’s free of charge, so come on out. Click on the link to WLWC for more information.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
