Scabs-R-Us

While praying about some specific things today, I believe I saw something in the the Spirit that I wanted to share with the readers of the Balm of Gilead. As you are reading, my prayer is that Holy Spirit will illuminate some things within your heart that you need to take care of. I believe it is God’s desire to help you heal some wounds from the past and move toward total healing.

What precipitated me praying about some things was because a series of events happened and I began to react to them. I was acting in a way that I didn’t like and even though I didn’t show it, I was escalating toward anger or hurt, a place I do not want to be. Let me preface this by saying that I don’t believe anyone did or said anything out of malice or direct intent to hurt me. It wasn’t even the individual incidents but Satan lining up a “perfect storm” for me because he wanted to tempt me into reacting. Job ALMOST accomplished.

I recognized my situation and quickly curbed my reaction. Then I knew the best place for me to be was on my knees in prayer. The best place for you to take care of these matters is in honest prayer. You can’t lie to God. You can lie to yourself, but not to an Almighty God with an Omniscient mind. Sometimes you may even need help with that. That’s why I also encourage you to seek out the help of your pastor or ministries that specialize in helping you reach the core issues and resolving them through love, prayer, and the Word.

So here I was, late at night, sitting in my prayer room. I was asking Holy Spirit to reveal what it was that caused me to react. I began seeing a Holy Spirit guided picture. You may think that is weird or even New Age but it isn’t. Jesus saw Nathanel sitting by the tree and coming to see Jesus at night. Nathanel even asked how He knew him and he said that before Phillip even called him, He saw him sitting under a fig tree. (John 1:48) So, if Jesus did it, then why can’t believers?

So I was seeing this picture of an arm. Then another arm. Then a leg. Then a face. I kept seeing all of these body parts and they were from various people, not just me, and everyone had a scar on it. As I began to look closer, I noticed that they were not scars but actually scabs.

I began to inquire of God why I was seeing this and what it had to do with my situation. He began to reveal to me that sometimes we think something is healed when in reality, there is just a scab on it. Scabs are just where the blood has dried to form a protective barrier so the wound can heal. Through the process of events, the scab had been torn away to reveal the wound that was once again open. Left alone to the healing properties, it would have been fine. But that’s not what the enemy does. He loves to pull the scabs off of your wounds to expose the wound once again.

Disappointments are often good ways to pull off a scab. People’s words can often pull away the scab and if you aren’t careful, they can literally yank the wound open again. One thing I’ve found is that the same word can pull at the scab and tear open the wound. Think about this….someone says something to you. Oops, the scab is starting to pull away. You begin to think how insensitive that person was to you…there goes the scab…a little more. Then you think of other times that they have hurt you…..now it’s totally off….no protection there. Then you begin to think about how the next time you will just ignore them….can you feel the wound cutting back open? Now you are just plain angry…how could they treat you that way? And then you begin to plot how you can gey back at them…..BINGO!!! Now it’s wide open and bleeding again. See how easy it is?

My friend, don’t give in to it. You can’t even blame the devil for all of it. You allowed your thought process to proceed with it. Will you get hurt? UH HUH!!! Sometimes it will even happen intentionally. Sometimes it won’t. Sometimes your own hurt will cause you to think something has been said when it was never intended that way.

Don’t give room to the devil. If your scab get pulled at, then simply cover it and let it heal. Don’t pick your scabs. When you’re finished, you may have a scar but they are just battle wounds. Look at them know that you let the scab stay on until it was time to come off. Remember, an unhealed wound is just an infection waiting to happen. So it seems that everyone has some scabs waiting to finish healing. Do yourself a favor….let them heal!

But He was wounded for our trangressions,..and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

  1. This makes a lot of sense to me. A couple of weeks ago at work one of my fellow employees felt he needed to put his finger in my face and say a couple of choice words. I was shocked because I did not know what I had done to deserve such mistreatment. Boy did I want to go after him and not only give him a piece of my mind but allow him to feel the laying on of my hands if you catch my drift. I decided that for one he is not worth losing my job over nor is he worth allowing that situation to take control of me. I did ask him later what his problem was and he had a few more choice words for me and walked away. Once again I wanted to go after him but I didn’t. To make a long story short, about two weeks later he apologized to me and said he was having a bad day when that happen and it was a big misunderstanding on his part. Boy could I feel those scabs ripping apart. Although if I would have reacted like I wanted to, our work relationship would not have been restored. Now it is like nothing ever happen.

  2. Isn’t it funny how we can sometimes feel the scabs pulling away. Unfortunately, we don’t always take the hint and try to restore things. Instead, we are sometimes happier to rip them off even more. Lesson learned.
