Can You Hear Me Now?

Hank, our gifted engineer at He’s Alive Radio (www.hesalive.net) sent me this picture. At first, it made me laugh. Here’s this guy at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem. A place where, for centuries, Jews have gathered to pray and yes even wail to Jehovah, lamenting over the current state of affairs of their life and their nation. If you look closely at the picture, he’s got his cell phone at his ear. Was he trying a different approach to reaching God?

I’ve never seen someone in church use their cell phone to get a better connection to God. However, I did have something funny happen to me about a year ago. I just got a new cell phone and there were some complications in the programming causing it to reboot itself a at various times for no apparent reason.

One night during an outbreak at church, I was at the front of the church and Melissa and Lisa (our lead intercessor) came to pray over me. Lisa began to prophesy over me and just as she said, “God calls you faithful” my phone rebooted and started back up with the start-up music. It was funny and a confirmation of the word at the same time.

Sometimes when we feel overwhelmed in our minds or exhausted in our flesh, we tend to miss the voice of God talking to us. He speaks to us in many ways. We are the ones who are not in tune with His voice.

Like the guy with the cell phone at the Wailing Wall, if we don’t think God is listening to us because He hasn’t responded the way we’re expecting, we sometimes come up with other ways to reach Him. Because of our fallen nature, we will sometimes also seek to fill in the gap that is missing with something that can destroy us physically or emotionally. This is why many turn to drugs, alcohol, or improper relationships, just to name a few.

If you have made Jesus Christ the Lord of your life, then you have an open access to the throne of God. You don’t need to go about it any other way. If you haven’t, then the invitation has been given to you. Let Him come into your life and give Him access to those hidden places. There is a healing for your spirit that is waiting for you. Reach out and claim it through Christ.

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.—Hebrews 4:16
