Is Healthy Food Really Healthy???

A few weeks ago, Pastor Sharon (www.worldlighthouse.org) was teaching on her daily radio program, the Winning Life, about healing that comes through communion. She said something that caught my attention. She that she was reading a book about “eating the foods that Jesus ate.” According to the book, if we would eat the foods that Jesus ate while He was here in the flesh, we could eliminate a lot of health problems.

While I believe, but don’t always practice, healthy eating, one question that she asked about the book got me to thinking. If all it took was simply eating certain foods that people ate 2000 years ago, then why was Jesus constantly going around healing sick people????

The answer (at least for me right now) lies in the fact that Jesus didn’t always heal people for the sake of their physical bodies. The human race has been dying physically since Adam and Eve ate from the tree. It’s also true that we have also been suffering spiritually and mentally. Don’t believe me? Then why does every family have someone who is suffering from some type of emotional problem? Which family hasn’t been touched by some extreme physical ailment? Is everyone in your family tree a follower of Christ?

Do you remember the story of the ten lepers that Jesus healed? He healed 10 men stricken with a horrible disease that literally decayed the flesh. No one else would touch them. In fact, they had to walk around calling out “Unclean, unclean!” They were even confined to their own community. Jesus reached out and touched these undesirables with His healing touch and each one was healed. Jesus then told them all to show themselves to the priests so they could be declared clean.

The story doesn’t end there. One of them returned to that the Great Physician. After giving thanks, the Healer told him to go his way, his faith had made him whole. Maybe there is more to this than what I’m seeing but for me the question still remains…why, after he was healed and returned to thank the Lord, was this man told that his faith made him whole.

I want to explore this more. If anyone has any insight into this, please post a comment. We can all learn from each other. What is your experience with the Living Word as you journey to find wholeness in Him?
